THE SPRING CREEK JOURNAL
From the President

Greetings!

In the last edition of the Journal I shared with you that we were working on a plan to get the amenities back in shape.  In this edition of the Journal we provide you with an update on that project and all the progress that is being made.  It is so exciting to be making significant progress with restoring our amenities to a condition we can take pride in.  We won’t get everything done this year, but we should be able to make a significant dent in the ever growing list.

There are a number of other exciting projects underway as well.  The Spring Creek Chapter of the Fire Safe Council has a “draft” emergency plan that is currently being reviewed by the Nevada Division of Forestry and the Sheriff.  We hope to have the plan finalized and approved by the Board and County this summer.  At this point, we are confident that we know what to do in the event of an emergency and the planning effort has brought all the agencies that respond in an emergency to a common understanding of our roles and responsibilities.

The Chapter also secured another grant this year and is busy with additional brush beating of greenbelts in all tracts.  We should be able to complete all of the high risk areas by the end of this year.  This effort will ensure that our rating for insurance doesn’t go back to high risk as well provide fire breaks in the event we should encounter a wild land fire.  We are also working on a grant with the Nevada Division of Forestry for the campground and surrounding area.  They will be working with the Fire Safe Council on a joint effort to clean out the dangerously high fuels in and around the campground and rifle range.  After touring the area with us, NDF agreed that the area is at a seriously high risk of being lost to fire.  The effort will begin this summer and be completed over the next couple years.

Our annual Pride Day clean up in April was a huge success.  Nearly 150 volunteers came out to clean the amenities and roads.  Thank you to each and every volunteer who gave their time to this effort, it really makes a big difference.  Special thanks to the Volunteer Fire Department and the Explorer Cadets that came and cooked for the Barbecue as well as taught children and adults about fire prevention and what to do in the event your house catches fire.  The Weed group was also present providing education on noxious weeds.  This group has done so much work in Spring Creek and we could never begin to thank them enough.  A new program was kicked off on Pride Day which is the “Adopt a Street” program.  The first group to adopt a street were the Great Basin 4H who were the catalysts for the program.  Bawcom Real Estate recently signed up as well.  If you have a group that would like to adopt a street, call the office and we will gladly get you signed up.

The first annual Spring Creek Flea Market is coming up in September during the Balloon Festival.  The Flea Market will be held at the Horse Palace on September 19, 20 & 21, 2008.  Space rental will be very reasonable so that anyone and everyone can afford to get space to sell their treasures.  Everything goes garage sale items, vehicles, parts, arts and crafts, farmer’s market items, etc.   Inquire at the SCA office, 753-6295 for more information.

By the time you receive this edition of the Journal, we will have ground up the asphalt and laid it back down on portions of Greencrest, Licht/Springfield Parkway and Palace Parkway.  In July 7 we will then double chip seal those areas to seal the new asphalt.  Once that project is complete we will resume with patching of pot holes and brush beating of bar ditches.

With school now out, please remember that ATV’s and Motorcycles are not allowed on the roads or association property.  The Sheriff’s department is cracking down on those who violate the rules.

Have a safe and wonderful summer!
